Adding Liquid Bleach to Aerobic Septic Systems

All aerobic septic systems need bleach.

Some systems take tablets and others take liquid bleach. If your system has a liquid chlorinator such as the one pictured, you will need to add liquid bleach. The liquid bleach goes into the liquid chlorinator. It is usually located near one of the tank lids. It should look similar to what is pictured.

Adding Liquid Bleach

When the septic system is installed, usually 3 or 4 gallons must be added. The amount of bleach you will have to refill is dependent upon your household water consumption. You should check the level of bleach on a regular basis until you have a good idea of how much you use.

When you are ready to begin adding liquid bleach you will need to remove the cap and fill up to the small tube as illustrated in the picture below.

Be sure not to overfill when adding liquid bleach. The extra bleach will just move into the tank and be wasted. Once you are done, just replace the cap.
